Today heralded the beginning of the International Standards Olympiad in South Korea, with Saudi Arabia taking part for the first time. This participation is made possible by strategic cooperation between the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO), and the Ministry of Education.
The Saudi delegation comprises nine students from middle and high school, divided into three teams, competing against 40 teams with a total of 120 participants from 11 countries.
Held this year in Asan City from August 10th to 15th, the Olympiad aims to assess participants' knowledge of the measurement and standards industry while encouraging the exchange of innovative ideas in standards and technology.
The competition includes preliminary rounds, leading to the main event, where participants tackle tasks designed to enhance their understanding of metrology, test their problem-solving skills, and showcase their competencies.
The International Standards Olympiad, an annual global competition for middle and high school students, began as a national contest in South Korea in 2006. It evolved into an international event in 2014.
